Michael Castle – Construction Manager of the Year Awards 2016 finalist

Congratulations to Mike Castle, Raymond Brown Building site manager, who was a finalist at this year’s CIOB Construction Manager of the Year Awards (CMYA).

The client nominated Mike in the ‘New Build and Refurbishment £0-3 million’ category for his hard work as site manager on the Hounsdown School East Block project, which involved re-cladding a single storey SCOLA block and internal refurbishment.

Mike and his wife Diana attended the CMYA 2016 awards ceremony in London on the 15th September. Mike said:

“Although I did not leave the evening a winner, the experience of becoming a finalist and attending the event gives me great pride.”

Despite not winning a medal, Mike has been offered full membership to the Chartered Institute of Building due to the high standard of his submission and the high level of competency displayed. He has been working on his application over the last year so he was thrilled to receive this offer.

The works at Hounsdown School were initially planned to be carried out over 5 phases, however this needed to be changed to 11 phases, due to the school’s desire to only vacate two classes at a time. Liaising with the client (Hampshire County Council) and school, a 10 week extension of time was granted to accommodate the longer programme of works and planned future works, which in the long run saved the school additional costs, time and inconvenience.
